After all that lively debate about which company most deserved the space, a victor has arisen – Fresh & Easy is coming to the Mission! The Chronicle dropped this bombshell as a throwaway one-liner in a piece about another Fresh & Easy opening elsewhere in the city:
And, we learned on Tuesday, Fresh & Easy just signed a lease for the shuttered DeLano’s Market on South Van Ness Avenue in the Mission District.
That’s a bummer. Oh well.
I mean, better a Fresh and Sleazy than NOTHING, but Gross Out would have been infinitely preferable.
That’s great. The neighborhood needs a real grocery store not one that sells random outlet food.
Seconded!
Shit, just hurry up and open something in that eyesore of a space. I never thought I would miss Delano’s/Cala so much.
It’ll be nice to have a few more jobs around, too. Though they’ll probably be inundated with about 1,000 applications.
I urge you to click on and read the “read on” link — not so many jobs being created as you might think. If you like jobs and unions for grocery workers, you are going to not like this development at all.
Yeah, Fresh and Easy is owned by Tesco, who are an enormous company not known for treating their employees especially well.
Why would I care whether or not the workers are unionized? Isn’t that their decision?
Not if there aren’t any workers. Read the fucking link, ignoramus.
America! Fuck Yeah!
no really, i have experienced fresh and easy, it great. I promise you, that its more of a boner store masquerading as a grocery store. Fuck, my dick just tingled a little thinking about going over and picking up a pack of prepared pineapple.
I’ve been to the one in Pacifica a few times and its a solid place. Very excited about this!
well, i guess we are all to lazy ( or poor) to walk down to rainbow grocery, where the workes are paid fairly and have good health insurance.
Why, is it too much to ask that this city have more than once grocery store that treats it workers well?
Rainbow Grocery is a great idea that makes you feel all warm and fluffy inside until you actually go in and find yourself spending five dollars on a bellpepper. Being smug is a luxury of the rich.
This just in! I visited the new Fresh & Easy out in the Richmond and it is top-to-bottom all-out HORRIBLE! It is all packaged food and the smallest, worst produce section you can imagine with all kinds of what may possibly be fresh produce on styrofoam covered with plastic. It reminded me of a new, bright and shiny version of the Delano’s Market in the last few weeks. Yes, it’s better than nothing, but…
What were you expecting from the British equivalent of Walmart?
