Our second stop of the day was Pop’s, and after the long walk in semi-summer weather, a bloody mary is exactly what the bartender ordered. Tommy, the resident bloody expert, was ready for our crew and had the bacon sizzling by the time we walked in.
Cranking out 12 at a time (!!!), they were able to appease the growing crowd with their mixture of the standard bloody ingredients, also throwing in a splash of Guinness, green beans, asparagus, olives, a pickle, and my personal favorite, a wedge of pepperjack cheese. Overall, between the extremely patient bartenders and the expertly made Bloody’s, I’d say Pop’s is definitely a worthy destination for a Sunday drinking adventure.

How bad did the bar smell?
Who cares ?! Those bloody marys are AMAZING. And it’s a DIVE BAR. They never smell good.
It is generally thought of as the worst smelling bar in The City.
That title belongs to Lucky 13.
Pop’s is awesome and that “smell” you are referring to is called “character”
That smell is unwashed messengers and punkers. When Emily worked there I would go during the daytime, once the smelly people started to show up I would split.
Emiley hasn’t worked there in like two years. A lot has changed.
Actually, the smell is primarily the development chemicals in the photobooth. Once that starts going the smell starts to get pretty bad.
I’m not really sure we have a lot of “punkers” hanging out. But the bros coming from the skate park can be pretty ripe.
For the record, we bleach and mop the floors, bathroom and counters every day prior to opening and we scored a perfect 100 on our last health inspection.
Anyway, thanks for coming out for the Bloodys. See you soon.
Thanks for the info, I will gladly come back and spend money and check out the changes.
I used to work early in the morning and would see the closers doing just that every morning.^_^ I think toronado is pretty rank. fermented piss and always too crowded. photo development chemicals kinda smell like pickles
BIG thank you’s go out to everyone involved!
Especially to everyone who waited patiently as i tried to balance bloody-quality with bloody-quantity! i hope everyone was satisfied with the results…
Thanks again Andrew, and the rest of the MM’rs for a great sunday!
Hope to see you again soon!
The smell is definitely because of the photobooth….yes, it’s not digital, it’s real film people! And Tommy makes great bloody’s!
yea sometimes i like to smell the photos when they come out…wuteva
Don Thomas = Best Bloodys Ever (except for Club Deluxe in the 1990s back when sardines were involved).
Oh yes, the Pop’s smell….Sundays all I can smell is bacon, but feel free to stay closer to Valencia so there’s more for us.
