Fancy beer bar Abbot’s Cellar coming soon to Valencia Street

Eater SF tells us about the new outpost from the Monk’s Kettle folks, coming this winter to Valencia near 18th (pictured above is the current incarnation, John’s Jaguars):

The “very focused” beer program will include 100 food-friendly bottles, some aged options, seasonal flights and 24 beers held on draft at the proper temperature. Beer geeks, please note two hand-pump cask engines will also be in the house.

    R.I.P. Mission

  2. Alissa says:

I’m glad to hear about this. The Summit and Mission Bikes have been nice additions, but this particular block has been looking a little bleak ever since New College shuttered.

  3. Glenparker says:

How are they gonna clean up that toxic site in half a year?

  4. no.thanks. says:

    fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck.

cant we just leave some shit alone.

i dont own a jag, but i think if we keep walking lockstep towards a homogenized neighborhood things are going to start looking really fucking goofy.

i was cool with the wine bar, i was cool with cheese spot (soooorta), but this is getting out of hand.

the mission is special because it has a mix of nice and new with old and grimey. stop fucking with the balance.

  5. Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Hooray! More yuppie bars and restaurants trying to turn the Mission into a clone of the Marina!

  6. JDG says:

great, are they also going to charge $12 for the same beer I can get at Lucky 13 for $5?

  7. George Washington says:

It used to be an auto-repair shop. How is that more “Mission” for this bike obsessed neighborhood than a type of bar that lots of people go to. It’s called progress. Welcome to America…

  8. SCUM says:

Haight St. and Union St. had a baby and named it Valencia St. What a fucked up kid it turned out to be.

  9. Stu says:

    HOLY SHIT EVERYONE PANIC!

This winter? That’s not nearly enough time to tear that shithole down and turn it into 4 stories of sweet apartments with room for mixed use retail below.

  11. chalkman says:

wait a sec, this was an auto shop focused on high end british cars, and now that it is becoming a bar, it’s the end of the mission?

  12. SFdoggy says:

Good deal; Monk’s is great but I hate walking there and finding too crowded.

  13. Drew says:

This is my old mechanic, Excellent Automotive, AKA Discount Brake and Clutch. They moved to Shotwell and Chavez.

I like beer. I like the idea. Hopefully it will be affordable. Yay.

  14. wrybread says:

    ^^^^ what Chalkman said.

  15. frankie says:

Wonderful. They can transplant the same shitty chef they now have at the current spot and spread mediocrity west. RIP.
