MM at SXSW: Edwyn Collins brings the ’90s back with Empire Records hit ‘A Girl Like You’

Edwyn’s getting on in years, so he’d sat on a crate for the entirety of the rest of his set. But he got to his feet for the closer, just like you knew he would.

What an ass you are. Edwyn Collins suffered serious health problems that nearly killed him and you say “he’s getting on in years.” I’d like to see you exhibit even a quarter of the life force he’s got. That will never happen.

So I say, “Edwyn’s suffered serious health problems that nearly killed him, so he’d sat on a crate for the entirety of the rest of his set.” You’re happy. But then the post is about Edwyn’s serious health problems instead of about how hard he rocked in Austin this week.

And what’s wrong with getting on in years? Everyone’s getting on in years. I spend way less time in the pit than I used to, because I’m getting on in years. It happens.

Probably has more to do with the brain hemorrhage that almost killed him a couple of years back than any normal “getting on in years”. It was kind of a miracle he not only survived but is back performing again at all… most people do not come back from that kind of thing.

I didn’t mean any criticism. He exhibited more life force and charm and charisma from his perch on the crate than a good percentage of the frontmen and women I saw this week did standing upright and moving around the stage.
