Boogaloos does guerrilla dining, soul night

I’ve never had the patience to stand in line on a Saturday morning at Boogaloos, but I’ve always heard good things, and it makes me regret my inability to stand in one place for more than 10 minutes.  So now it looks like I have an actual “you mean I don’t have to wait for 45 minutes?!” reason to check out this spot – graffEATS Guerrilla Dinning has moved on from The Corner and will set up shop for 4 nights only, starting tonight.  Check it:

The menu will be similar at all three dinners, with a few changes. We’re sticking to the soulful food and soulful beats theme, but with more soul this time, of course. My buddy, Jesse Durocher, from the “the Laundry” and Campton Place will be back with me in the kitchen again.

We will be taking walk-ins, but why not seal the deal with a reservation. Reservations can be made by simply emailing us.

Limited time only, so get on it.

I’ve never understood the appeal of Boogaloos. I’ve been twice and the food does not warrant the wait at all. Maybe I’m ordering wrong but there are far better places to spend money on brunch.

  2. SCUM says:

Why does it seem that it’s mostly stupid white people that will wait in line for long periods of time for food.

    “I’ve always heard good things”

What, like “they serve the exact same brunch menu as 20 other places in a 1-mile radius, but at least the chairs are uncomfortable and the service is really bad?”

    • Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Really? The only place I’ve ever seen that has a vaguely similar brunch menu is the new St. Francis Fountain, and that’s because they’re owned by the same people.

      Chairs and service are fine.

  4. Bulaklak says:

Making fun of people who wait at Boogaloos* is requisite, but never cliché. In other words: always in style.

    *For brunch, anyway.

  5. sfnola says:

There’s never a wait if you’re there before 9:00, and the huevos rancheros are awesome. Of course, if you’re a hungover hipster doofus looking for breakfast at noon, then, yes, its not worth the wait.

  6. Corpus Nerd says:

It’s not soul food without waffles, collard greens, or fried chicken gizzards. This is just Southern California yuppie diner food.

  7. Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Boogaloo’s is good food and a totally reasonable price, but I can’t really put up with the wait. That, and my tolerance for being chin-deep in hipsters is relatively low.

  8. MrEricSir says:

If you’re going to wait 20 minutes for brunch, at least go somewhere that actually has good food, like Universal Cafe or Mission Beach.

Boogaloos ain’t worth the wait. Not sure I’d eat there even without the wait, actually. eh
