The ’90s come back to life tonight at Debaser’s ‘Greatest Hits Edition’

I asked DJ Jamie Jams to send me a video that would sum up his expectations for tonight’s very special party. Here it is:

Here are some relevant details from the official invite:

We’ve accumulated a lot of random stuff in three years of doing 90′s theme parties.

Come and hear us put the whole thing in the beat blender for a classic party style set.

Special guest Richie Panic joins us for an epic, melt your face off run through the classics.

$5, Free w/ Flannel before 11pm.

And here’s what Jamie has to say about tonight’s special guest:

Jason’s been DJ’ing since the dawn of time, like 12 years or something, and actually started as a britpop DJ like a million years ago.

I actually got into DJ’ing because we all use to go to his party Fan Club in the basement of the Li Po Lounge in like 2002.

He’s going to throw some classic riot grrl into the mix too, so it should be sick.

Siiick! RSVP and invite your friends here.

I know what the first suggestion will be

Last call for donuts on Donut Day

So, it seems that on National Free Donut Day when they’re giving away donuts for free you can’t roll up to Dynamo at 4pm and expect there to be anything left.

Luckily, as of right this second, Atlas Cafe still has like four Dynamo donuts left in the pastry case. One stripey one, three strawberry-earl greys. In case you really had your heart set on a nice pricey donut before the end of the holiday. Hurry up!

Gutter power-up

Free power-ups in front of Bi-Rite Grocery! Only thing is, you might have to defeat a dog for it.

Mr. Pickle parties down in Livermore

mr pickle, food, livermore, restaurant, pickle costume, dancing pickle, wtf

You might not know it, but Mr. Pickle has a sister restaurant all the way out in Livermore. Things are different there – the fresh air and open blocks of suburbs have emboldened our brined amigo to jump up and start shaking his can in three dimensions like nobody’s business. This rare photo captures the majestic beast at work, working it.

Also, how batshit crazy is their website?

Oldies Night is tonight!

Mission Mission on Tumblr (mostly a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Mission Mission) yesterday posted an mp3 of a rare track by the Shirelles called “I Met Him on a Sunday (1966).” When Primo played it at the last edition of Oldies Night, it blew minds. All over the dance floor. Expect more of the same, tonight at the Knockout.

Listen to the song in question here.

Hot new look for summer: Big frilly rectangle

Polite ‘thanks for not tagging’ sign tagged

The original note appears to be the work of the same woman and organization that posted that “unfriendly chemicals” plea a couple weeks back. Looks like friendly tactics just aren’t working.

(Thanks, Mark!)

New local music blog launches tonight at El Rio!

Night Fog Reader, our favorite new controversial local music blog, is having an official launch party tonight at El Rio. The event’s Facebook page has detailed details on all the participating entertainers, and you can RSVP and invite your friends.

Here’s a rad picture I took of Ryan Grubbs last fall:
