Mark Denton (aka swampzoid) used Google Earth to capture this image of the Hub (that circular on-ramp on S. Van Ness by 14th Street that leads to the 101). I’ve always wondered what kind of seedy stuff goes on in the middle of that thing.
For maximum enjoyment on this abysmally rainy Sunday, we recommend a pairing with Sunny Day Real Estate:
From a recent profile detailing the origins of Belle and Sebastian:
On the day he had to return home, Murdoch remembers, the seminal D.C. post-punk band Fugazi played a show in Dolores Park. He’s still sad about not being able to go. But it was then, health improved, guitar skills in tow, first songs already written and performed, that Murdoch vowed to return to San Francisco with his own band.
“I always wanted to play in Dolores Park,” he says, still wistful after nearly two decades. “I hope that Treasure Island will have a similar vibe.”
Oh, cool. Wait. Treasure Island has a fine vibe, but it’s no Dolores Park. CAN WE GET A BELLE AND SEBASTIAN SHOW IN DOLORES PARK PLEASE??
P.S. Wait. FUGZAI PLAYED A SHOW IN DOLORES PARK!?
According to this picture by photographer Chris Belew, and this VH1.com article, they played there in 2000, with Sleater-Kinney, but that would’ve been well after Murdoch started Belle and Sebastian. So, FUGAZI HAS PLAYED MULTIPLE SHOWS IN DOLORES PARK??
CAN WE PLEASE GET SOME COOL BANDS PLAYING SHOWS IN DOLORES PARK AGAIN PLEASE???!?
“I’m used to there being a partially nude man next to me on stage,” Murphy says, referring to drummer Pat Mahoney’s penchant for short shorts. Last night on Treasure Island, where it was cold as grim death, Mahoney wore jeans, to the chagrin of short-shorts fans the island over.
Nonetheless, LCD Soundsystem destroyed. (They opened with the album opener and closed with the album closer!)
An ethical dilemma for a rainy Sunday. Sure, the owner of the Faggio would obviously prefer finding his scooter upright upon returning, but would you be doing him a disservice by preventing him from knowing that something happened to his ride? Assume there is no damage–does it matter if he knows?
Wait, what if the owner saw you propping it back up and assumed you knocked it over?!? Would could you say then? Have any of you ever gotten into trouble for mistimed altruism?
Confused? Luckily, it’s Sunday, so you can always go off and see a minister.
Jessica over at Mission Local today continues her series spotlighting Mission cyclists and their bikes. Again, the consensus seems to be that bikes are good for transportation. And this guy Johnni brags that he’s never been in an accident. Knock on wood, bro! Read on.

With this melancholy motivational poster, artist Zoë Banks articulates what we all know to be an essential Mission truth.
P.S. Dolores Park, you’re perfect, oh please don’t change a thing.
Woah, some kid’s mom is pissed at him right now.
But the 9-year-old in me is seriously losing his shit. Are we talking loose LEGOs or full sets? I’m looking to complete my Blacktron collection.
