What ever happens to these pigeons that get stranded on the lowest level of BART? I can’t imagine that they all are able to find their way out. Do they enter the tunnels only to get smacked by a train? Do they fly into a train and get unwillingly deported to Concord?
Anyone want to set up a benefit for these little guys? We’ll guest bartend!
I’m surprised the MTA hasn’t mandated that Pigeons take mass transit to prevent them from clogging our skies.
i was on Bart a month ago, and i had this exact same thought as i watched a pigeon walk around in the bottom of the mission station. Almost immediately after i thought “wonder if they ever get out?” the Pigeon flew straight up the escalator and out…. apparently they are not as dumb as i thought..
No worries.
Pigeons are the common names of the birds. Their real actual name is Rock Dove. They are fine living & nesting in caves, and the BART stations fit the bill.
Pigeons and other birds are prey for raptors like the Red-tailed Hawk, so they’re much happier in a safe place where they can’t be nabbed. It’s noisy there, but it’s much noisier at waterfalls, where I’ve also seen huge flocks of Rock Doves nest.
