This just in: Mission Street Food is movin’ on up. As previously reported, they’d decided to take their operation full time, and now they’re doing it. The new restaurant is called Commonwealth and it will open this summer at 2224 Mission Street (pictured).
You can follow the place on Twitter or fan it on Facebook. And you can read their full press release after the jump…
Remember yesterday when we reported that some spurned scenester had sullied this sightly piece of street art? Guess what! It’s all back to normal! Eric S. reports that artist Chris Lux had it back in working order in no time flat:
yeah…not even 10 minutes after you posted my first photo, dude was out there with his quiver of cans making it look like no woman was ever scorned!
Gorgeous! Thanks, Eric!
Reader Travis O. tells us, via our Facebook page, that something new is afoot on Valencia:
Did you see that Bombay Ice Cream now has an all you can eat indian buffet? It’s pretty good and only $7.95. The grand opening [was last week]. I got to meet the chef, she said the food is homestyle from the western side of the country. I am very excited! [link]
Us too! Bombay’s official website, on the other hand, has nothing to say about this news.
Circus Bella did a fundraiser performance at Amnesia last night. And, not to be deterred by the tight quarters, they managed to install a goddamned trapeze in the middle of the room:
That’s the artistic director Abigail Munn performing.
Circus Bella does it the old-school way and sets up free open air one-ring circus performances in parks. They feature a live band with original music written and performed by Rob Reich. You may remember last summer when they posted up in a beloved park in the ‘hood that starts with a “D” and translates to “pains”.
They are ramping up for the summer season and hopefully coming to a park near you. The next SF performance is at Yerba Buena Gardens on July 3rd. They run on donations from supporters so find out how you can get involved here.
In a sprawling new Hypebeast interview, Self Edge honcho Kiya Babzani talks about — among other things — the differences between the original shop on Valencia and the recently opened sister shop in New York City:
The buying patterns and markets, for one thing in NY they have seasons, something we don’t really have in SF. So in the Winter it’s all warm gear and in the Summer it’s all Summer clothes. In SF, people are buying short-sleeve shirts and jackets year round. Also the customer is a bit different in NY, less concerned with the brand and they want something that’s more dressy looking and less vintage. But that’s expected, the vintage and 50’s scene in NY is near non-existent compared to how large the culture is in California.
Read the full interview here, though you should know it’s nowhere near as hard-hitting or personal as Mission Mission’s Self Edge profile from last year.
You could ride this badass beauty into a subterranean sledgehammer fight with Stalin himself and fare pretty well I think.
Gorgeous! (Even despite the terrible lighting down there, right?)
No word on how Mission burritos or Dolores Park fit into this equation.

Wow, there have been some killer photos on the mission flickr feed and they aren’t all just pics of Dolores Park (which are quickly becoming the Mission photographer equivalent of performing “Freebird”).
