Stabbing Last Night on 20th and Sanchez

Carin sends us word of another stabbing that took place near the Dolores Park last night (2am):

I live on 20th and Church and there was a crazy stabbing on our block last night, at the steps on top that link to Sanchez. My roommate just told me, I somehow slept through out it…. around 2 AM they heard loud screams, a prostitute was stabbed by this guy, the john.

She was stabbed in the neck and managed to get herself to a neighbor’s house who helped give her first aid until an ambulance guy. A bunch of police showed up, and the guy fled. They brought the woman into the ambulance, she seemed alive. Don’t think they found the guy :(

Yikes. Stay safe, folks.

didn’t a woman getting stabbed in the neck just happen in potrero? ah yes… http://sfappeal.com/news/2010/09/woman-stabbed-in-neck-robbed-in-potrero-hill.php

OK, for you jokers who know anything about the actual neighborhood instead of your imaginary virtual neighborhood that has no basis in reality…

a little guide to where 20th & Sanchez actually is in the actual world:

Head west on 18th past Church and you will hit Sanchez.

On the corner is a great Dry Cleaner (good prices, best stitcher of moth holes in SF — and for a song if you shop for price) and “Union Made,” the best menswear store on the west coast.

But they are on the right. To get to the scene of the “Dolores Park crime” you need to go left.

    Up a staggeringly steep hill.

And continue, because you will need to cross Hancock, 19th, and Cumberland before you get to 20th, and when you get there, you will know it has nothing to do with the DP.

Its a full 20 story building above the DP. If you want to find a place where DP people of any stripe are never to be found, its way up in the air there.

Now I hand off to the fabulous bloggy reporting of the source here:

“She was stabbed in the neck and managed to get herself to a neighbor’s house who helped give her first aid until an ambulance guy. A bunch of police showed up, and the guy fled. They brought the woman into the ambulance, she seemed alive. Don’t think they found the guy :(

Anyone else just dying to slap the author across her face before she says “YUMMY” on yelp just one more time?

Likewise, Ferocious Foot Odor, if you were at “DP” – encompassing the four blocks between 18th – 20th/ dolores and church – you could simply walk one block up from the left edge of the park to the top of sanchez. Not quite way up there in the air after all.

I am not so sure why anyone is so angry about this? Just look the damn corner up and you’ll see where it is. Close to the park, but not right on the park. Who the fuck cares? It still sucks and it’s still close to the park but not right in the park. Glad that someone can get stabbed and this is what people will argue about.

  4. just sayin says:

i dunno, i think it’s worth discussing whether a blog devoted to the mission should find newsworthy a stabbing that was most decidedly not in the mission.

not sure what else to say about the incident itself, absent any actual eyewitness info, beyond the implied 1) it’s awful and 2) hope she’s ok.

    • james says:

God forbid the blog Mission Mission covers something that might not be right inside of your definition of the Mission. GOD FORBID.

      Who cares dude.

  5. Ferocious Foot Odor says:

Because if you knew the area, in the least, you would know this was not a Dolores Park crime.

It just wasn’t. Plus the witness blogger makes my teeth hurt.

  6. Chully says:

I feel very sorry that this woman got stabbed. I hope she’s okay.

  7. RealMission says:

Why is this a Mission item anyway? 20th and Sanchez is the uber expensive Dolores Heights area. It was probably a white on white crime! Shouldn’t happen, but this is the 2nd most densely populated city. Guess crime happens in Pac Heights, the Marina and the real Mission. 20th and Dolores is Eureka Valley or the Castro…just sayin’

  8. RealMission says:

Also — a Mission devoted blog describing a stabbing can be construed that it was a Mission crime.

  9. Xmission says:

Dolores Park is not, was not, never was in the Mission.

  10. Missioner says:

@Ferocious, maybe you should take care of that foot problem cuz geography definitely isn’t your forte. the incident happened A BLOCK from DP.

  11. james says:

You’re right, I only lived blocks from there for years. I have no idea where it is.

  12. I feel deeply sorry for the victim and I really hope she is doing ok.

It’s pretty heartless that on a post about a woman getting violently attacked you threatening to slap someone, FFO?

Allan, you’re right—people are fierce on your blog when the weather is nice.

Just came from the monthly community meeting at the Mission Station.

According to Captain Corrales the incident began at 21st and Capp where a john picked up a prostitute and drove around looking for a quieter/more private/less obvious place to park for the exchange. The prostitute was servicing the john when he freaked out and started stabbing her. She started screaming for her pimp, people heard her, there were 5 calls into 911.

Kinda surprised there isn’t more coverage on this.
Always surprised @ the lack of community, awareness and involvement the recent “residents” of SF have.

The Mission Station has a meeting every last Tuesday at 6:00.
