On 16th Street there’s no time for subtlety when it comes to BP (formerly British Petroleum).
Up in North Beach we find this helpful guide.
Back to Valencia, and I’m not actually sure what this one’s about.

I know you don’t give a s**t but there is nothing British about BP. It does not stand for British Petroleum. Angry English guy.
Formerly.
Except for the fact that it does.
Anglo-Persian Oil Company was founded in 1909, changed their name to Anglo-Iranian Oil Company(AIOC) in 1935, then changed their name to British Petroleum (BP) in 1954. They stopped identifying themselves as “British Petroleum” in 2001, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are still British Petroleum any more than the fact that Kentucky Fried Chicken started referring to themselves as just “KFC” makes them any less the same company.
The point isn’t the name – the point is the ownership. British implies they are a British organisation, they are an international company owned as much by the US (39%) as by Britain (40%).
