One day you’re in, the next you’re auf. Unfortunately, we have another restaurant casualty to report this morning. Per Eater SF, Conduit (14th/Valencia) will be closing it’s doors, “effective immediately.” Bummer.
On the bright side, reader Gianpaolo spotted kegs being wheeled into the brand new Rosamunde this morning. Progress!
do people who live around here even eat here?
That’s likely the problem! I went in for cocktails once and was unimpressed by both those and the menu. Bounced.
I live a block away and never ate there. I know we’ve got some outliers like Foreign Cinema and so on that do well for themselves, but I never understood the idea behind opening a restaurant so far out of the price range of most of the neighborhood’s inhabitants.
Is Conduit any more expensive than Range, Delfina, Farina, Saison, Chez Spencer, Maverick, Bar Tartine, Universal Cafe, Blowfish, Garcon, Bar Bambino, etc.?
I ate there once and thought the food was good but no better than many of the other high end places in the Mission. It was definitely a notch more expensive than FC or Range. Some people were very impressed by the design, but for me it did not create a comfortable dining atmosphere. The restaurant business in SF is brutal; lots of competition so people can be very picky about where they dine.
Sad! Loved the architecture.
The prices were too high and they never bothered advertising. It’s like they didn’t even try… I almost suspect it was a front for something.
Even though I usually like this architects stark modern buildings. this places was OFF from the start. Food and feel. I tried it twice. Not the right feel and the food boring. In response to the comment here about people in the hood not affording this and other places like it, there are a wide range of people of vary economics living in the Mission, Castro and upper Market who certainly can afford this place. I can. I’ve lived in the Mission for 19 years but would much rather eat at Range, Delfina or Bar Bambino if I want to spend a bit of cash on food. They all are much better and well worth the expense. Foreign Cinema is not quite as good but the space amazing.
Bummer, I thought the food was awesome.
Good meal, but worst espresso I’ve ever had in San Francisco.
It was a good restaurant and had excellent cocktails. I think you kids lack perspective, just becuase you’re poor, or think $1.50 tacos and Pabst are cool, doesn’t mean everyone is/does. The mission is more diverse then you may think. Look at it this way, a 2 bedroom condo in the Mission is $550K. People are buying these, even during the great recession. There are folks with bank and they are spending it at restaurants. True the quality restaurants are destination places for folks all over, but whenever I go out to a nice Mission restaurant I see many barrio locals too. Now leave me alone, I have my liniment to apply!
oh my fucking god. here we are again. really dude?
“ust becuase you’re poor, or think $1.50 tacos and Pabst are cool, doesn’t mean everyone is/does.”
completely unoriginal. GFY!

I think I got this worked out guys.
I’ll echo those that have been there and didn’t feel a need to return. It’s not that it was bad, just that there are better places nearby. I’m just a block away and far prefer Woodwards Garden. And Coda is also doing great stuff on that same corner, especially during happy hour (half price wine… on tap!). Really Conduit is a casualty of a tough environment. Hopefully something with a good concept and lower price target moves in.
what i want to know is, how can i get my hands on their fixtures. upper end restaurants with crappy food often spent their time on nice furniture. restaurant supply sale anyone??
