From Rachel:
New sorta bay area centric nyt ads in the Bart. There were a bunch, that said “& Guggenheim, & d’orsay, & Avignon, & obama.” and the mish?
& The Mission! The New York Times is all over 24th St. BART like white on rice (or white on this blog!). Perhaps it’s partly to remind us of their new Bay Area blog.
To be honest, I’ve been a little bummed by their effort so far. When I read their coverage, it feels like they are talking *about* us, to the rest of America, instead of with us. It feels very “survey of the topic” without anything we aren’t already familiar with. But one can hope that in time it will get better.
I agree. There’s definitely something sorta unfriendly to it.
Total let down. I get the effort: all our local rags suck ass, but this showing is a bummer so far. I wonder if NYers feel that way about the Metro Section? Ugh, can’t someone come out with a good Bay Area/SF newspaper?
I noticed this in the Sunday NYT too–advertising their new Bay Area section. I agree it’s not great yet, but I’ll take more local news in whatever form. Since the Chronicle just reruns stories from the NYT anyway it’s good to see the NYT giving Bay Area news a try.
