Shoot. I’m trying to remember the details, but I heard about a guy who gets flown around the country by that company, doing all their window displays. I know, so far this story sounds bogus. I’ll report back if I can rustle up the specifics.
Its a very interesting phenomenon. The Jewish-run clothiers catering mostly to blacks. Used to be that every town had at least one. The most famous is in Memphis, made famous by Elvis, who went there because they had flashy clothes that he wanted for his stage act. The one in my hometown became (after it closed) a regional FBI office. Many also transitioned in the 60′s and 70′s to Army Surplus stores. Very few remain. You can go to Macy’s and buy hip hop clothes nowadays.
I think I was walking past as you were taking these photos – small neighborhood this Mission place… as I recall I think it was a Thursday evening, I had been at Mission St. Food.
Siegels?! that was the place to go back in the day. We used to get our uniforms for St. Peter’s there and kids would all buy their dickies and other cholo gear, including the skinny elastic belts with initials on it…
Hmm it appears like your site ate my first
comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing.
Do you have any tips and hints for inexperienced blog writers?
I’d certainly appreciate it.
Its like you learn my thoughts! You appear to know a lot approximately this, like
you wrote the e-book in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few % to power the message house a little bit, but instead of that, this is
wonderful blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.
Hi, i think that i saw you visited my website so i came to “return the favor”.I’m attempting to find things to improve my website!I suppose its ok to use a few of
your ideas!!
Hi there, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i was just
curious if you get a lot of spam remarks? If so how do you protect against it, any plugin or anything you can suggest?
I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any help is very much appreciated.
I think everything composed was very reasonable. But,
consider this, suppose you were to write a awesome post title?
I ain’t saying your information isn’t good, but what if you
added a title to maybe grab folk’s attention? I mean Three Well-Dressed, Slightly Disturbing Little Boy Mannequins Mission Mission is kinda vanilla.
You might look at Yahoo’s front page and note how they write post headlines to grab people to click.
You might add a video or a pic or two to grab readers interested about
everything’ve got to say. Just my opinion, it would bring
your blog a little bit more interesting.
Hi, I do think this is an excellent blog.
I stumbledupon it I will return once again since I book marked it.

Can’t believe it took so long for this to get posted.

I dunno, but it sure is old, check this out: http://www.zootsuitstore.com/shopping/siegels1929.asp
Also, it greets me with “Good Afternoon, Hipster!” under the banner. How does it know?!
I wonder if these guys have play dates with the little gentlemen at McSweeneys, someone needs to make this happen.
i gotta say, i am mesmerized by that mannequin with the teeth. that little guy is creepy…and probably he’s 50 years old.

Here’s the one in Memphis: http://www.lanskybros.com/history_home.php
Ha. You want velvet? I got velvet. You want corduroy? I got corduroy.
My grandfather and his brothers WERE those guys, on the LES and uptown in NYC.
My great uncle Murray then went onto sell bras and girdles out of the Empire State building.
Big rag trade family I got. That and cops.
But you’re right, it’s an interesting phenomonon.
This is pretty subdued for Siegel’s. Usually their boy mannequins look like they’ve been outfitted to go to Pimp Camp.
my 8 year old son covets the three piece suit on the one at 826 Valencia

How do you even know who took these specific photos? I assume lots of people take photos of these creepy little mannequins.
Lets just hope they never come to life like in the movie Mannequin. They look like they could stir up some trouble.
I took these Monday. I had been at Cancun.
